Redefining Urban Exploration
with Augmented Reality
The project aims to reimagine urban exploration with the use of mobile Augmented Reality (AR). The proposed service puts pedestrians first, offering lightweight, immersive experiences that mix 2D and 3D. The app connects local restaurants, events, and historic spots, making it easier to discover new places.

Alongside this, the study also explores whether the ease of use in this medium provides for a better user experience when compared to existing traditional methods.

PERSONAS + PRODUCT REQUIREMENTS
USER INTERFACE

For the interface, a main concern was the readability in sunlight and outdoor settings. In order to create the most legible format, high colour contrast was ideal.

The overall design created is minimalist with UI elements aiming not to overpower the feed coming from the phones camera.

USER TESTING & RESULTS
USER SUGGESTIONS
Idea 1

Add an audio option to the historical information such that, users could listen to it instead of reading the material.

A learn more button was also added, that can take users to a website with further information.

Idea 2

Include the ability to save places for future use and share them to contacts.

Idea 3

Include optional notifications to inform users if they were passing by a relevant historical site.

Idea 4

To tie all these features together, a settings screen was also created to allow for the choosing of different languages and to change font sizes to improve accessibility. The settings space would also contain all the saved places.
